Pleasanton Public Library – Adult Literacy

Are
you looking for a an opportunity to make a positive difference in your
community? Both new & native adult residents need help with English skills
to participate fully in our society. Enjoy this meaningful and interesting
volunteer job and give a priceless, life-changing gift to learners in our
diverse population!
Pleasanton Library’s Adult Literacy Program will train you to help adults
improve their English skills. Volunteers serve as one-on-one or small
group tutors, lead or help with weekly English Conversation Practice
Groups, provide Citizenship Test preparation, or host Book Clubs for
English Learners. Whether you have a little or a lot of time to give,
there is an opportunity for you!

We welcome native English speakers and multi-lingual volunteers. Fluency
in American English, patience, the ability to work with people from
various backgrounds, and familiarity with American culture are equally
important. Prior teaching or tutoring experience is not required.

Tutors meet with their students once weekly for 90 minutes; the library
supplies tutoring materials at no cost to participants.

The information above can be found on the official website of Pleasanton Public Library – Adult Literacy. For more details about the organization and to find out how you can volunteer, please visit their website: http://www.cityofpleasantonca.gov/gov/depts/lib/default.asp
