The Volunteer Center of Contra Costa is the starting point for people interested in volunteering in our community. Annually, we recruit and refer 5,000 volunteers to help in 300 nonprofit organizations in Contra Costa County. People of all ages use our services to find individual and group volunteer opportunities. Youth 10 years and older can explore volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups. Older youth use the Volunteer Center's resources to find volunteer activities for school requirements, religious organization assignments, and community involvement during the summer months.

Programs:

Community Agency Services: We work with 300 nonprofit organizations to list their volunteer opportunities and build capacity for volunteers. We help strengthen agency programs through technical assistance, training and individual consultations to help nonprofits build their volunteer programs.

Corporate Volunteer Council: The Volunteer Center of Contra Costa convenes monthly meetings for local business people to discuss their volunteer programs, exchange information, and plan events and recognitions to encourage volunteerism. The CVC is open to all business people in Contra Costa.

Disaster Response Network: We link volunteers who would like to help in response to a disaster. We also work with agencies to help them plan for effectively using emergent volunteers in the event of a disaster. The Volunteer Center will back up other Bay Area efforts in the event of a disaster that prevents engagement of local volunteers. Contra Costa volunteers will be recruited to help in other communities during a major disaster.

Holiday Volunteer Services We help individuals and groups learn about holiday activities and volunteer opportunities by publishing a comprehensive holiday list. We administer the Share the Spirit Fund for the Contra Costa Newspapers.

Human Race Walk-a-thon: A community fundraiser that helps 100 community nonprofits by encouraging walkers to raise funds through pledged sponsorships. The Human Race is always the second Saturday in May at the Lafayette Reservoir.

Volunteer Services: Individuals or groups can find 700 opportunities available for community volunteers. The Volunteer Center is open five days a week, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Wednesday evening until 8 p.m. to help volunteers find activities in local nonprofits.

Youth Action Council: Available to youth in junior high school and high school, the Youth Action Council is the youth board of the Volunteer Center. YAC members take the leadership role in planning volunteer events, fairs, and projects for their schools. YAC members are the center's youth voice in our community.
