WHO WE ARE
The Executive Service Corps of the San Francisco Bay Area (ESC) is an association of retired business men and women. They volunteer their time to consult with nonprofit and public service agencies. They believe that the experience and skills acquired during their business careers can help these agencies solve management, governance and administrative problems.
ESC consults have provided advisory services in a variety of areas such as accounting, budgeting and finance, planning, marketing, public relations, personnel administration, board development and governance, organizational systems, and facilities management. The projects were of limited duration.
The Bay Area ESC chapter is part of a network of 40 ESC chapters across the country. Each chapter is incorporated independently but there is a sharing of ideas and systems. An annual conference is held and will take place in San Francisco in 1997.
Recent contributors to ESC include The Arthur Vining Davis Foundation, BankAmerica Foundation, The Chevron Companies, Del Monte Foods, Levi Strauss Foundation, The Montgomery Street Foundation, Pacific Gas and Electric, and The San Francisco Foundation.

HOW WE WORK
Agencies who are interested in ESC consulting services begin by completing a Request for Assistance form. This is a single-page form asking for basic information about the agency and the type of assistance requested.
Following review of the basic information, an ESC consultant will arrange a visit to learn more about the agency and discuss the assistance requested. This is also an opportunity to provide more information about ESC and the skills available among the ESC consultants.
The next step is to work with the agency to develop project objectives. This may be done through telephone conversations or subsequent visits to the agency. The project objectives will then be included in a written agreement that will specify the name and skills of the lead consultant, the estimated number of hours needed to complete the project and the estimated date of completion.
ESC consultants are volunteers and are not compensated for their project work; however, a fee is charged to help defray ESC administrative and overhead costs. Fees will be discussed at the time the agreement is written and the agreed upon fee will be included in the document. Fees are based on the number of hours needed to complete the project. The budget size of the client is also considered. ESC hopes to make its services available to all agencies that have the capacity to staff and put into effect ESC recommendations.
