Assistance League of San Jose
A chapter of National Assistance League, a non-profit, non political,
nonsectarian organization dedicated to helping those within the community to
a better, more meaningful life.

As a Member you would do one of the following philanthropic projects and
would also support fundraising activities.
- Operation SchoolBell - Provide clothing for school children in need.
Through referrals from principals, counselors and social workers in all
local school districts, children are outfitted, as needed.
- Fingerprinting - Provide parents with a single set of their child's
fingerprints. Trained by the San Jose Police Department, the ALSJ
fingerprints at the request of the schools in Santa Clara Courty.
- Operation Hug - Provides bears which are used to ease the trauma of
accident and abuse. Bears are given to Pacific Center and Children's
Interview Center for comforting children and teens during traumatic
times.
- Kids on the Block - Be part of an international award winning
educational puppet troupe offering presentations to local elementary
schools with scripts that help children learn about disabilities, cultural
differences, and social problems.
- Telecare - Bring reassurance and comfort during the week to elderly
and shut-in persons in the greater San Jose area. This service has been
expanded to occasional personal home visits and special holiday
celebrations.
- Project hEARt - Volunteer hours of help to the Centre for Living With
Dying, helping people of all ages in their time of need.

Classifications of Membership:

*Associate Member
To Become An Active or Associate Member
Chapter members act as your sponsors during your six months of training.
Invitation to membership is open September through December. You would:
1. Attend monthly training classes January through May, as a provisional
member.
2. Participate for training with members in each of the six philanthropic
projects listed on the first page.
3. Attend monthly Chapter meetings January through May on the third
Thursday morning of each month.
4. Pay $45.00 membership dues.
Active Member
After completing the above activities, if you decide to become an active
member, you would:
1. Attend Chapter meetings. Meetings are held on the third Thursday
morning of each month, September through May. Our June meeting is our
Charter luncheon.
2. Staff one philanthropic project. Each project takes varying amounts of
time.
3. Serve on one chapter committee. Committees cover all aspects of
operation of the Chapter.
4. Pay annual dues of $45.00.
Associate Member
After completing new member activities, if you decide to become an
Associate member, you would:
1. Pay annual dues of $90.
2. Support fundraising activities, if desired.
