ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF AMADOR VALLEY (A.L.A.V.), a chapter of National
Assistance League, is a non-profit organization whose members volunteer to support,
administer, and serve specific community needs, through philanthropic projects.
Benefits and Rewards of Membership:

- Use and development of your special talents and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of resources and awareness of issues in your community.
- Growth and enjoyment of new friendships.
COMMUNITY PROJECTS
As a member of A.L.A.V., you would do one of the following projects:
- Books of My Own- provide books to Head Start pre-school and Title I
elementary school children in the local community.
- Personal Care Kits- provide personal hygiene and grooming kits to women and
children in a local shelter.
- C.A.R.E. (Caring About the Retired and Elderly)- provide one on one contact
and plan special group activities with residents of local
convalescent home. Volunteer support and help maintain a
magazine library at the Pleasanton Senior Center.
- S.E.E.(Screening Eyes Early)- screen the vision of young children at local pre-schools to detect amblyopia or "lazy eye".
- S.A.M.(School Age Mothers)- help with production of a newsletter to the
community to promote awareness and support
for the challenges of young mothers. Also aid
with baby-sitting and other activities at the school.
FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES
As a member of A.L.A.V., you would also support the following fundraising activities:
- Mad Hatter's Tea Party-an annual event attended by more than 300 ladies
sporting their best hat and enjoying a lovely spring
afternoon. This is the major fund-raiser for the year.
- "Sock it to 'em" - Christmas Direct Mail fundraiser.
- Fall Rummage Sale- we clean out our closets and donate the proceeds to the community.
- Macy's Benefit Days-participate in the benefit day sponsored every spring
by Macy's by selling tickets for the event.
YOU CAN BE A PART OF ASSISTANCE LEAGUE
Classifications of Membership
ACTIVE MEMBER
TO BECOME AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF A.L.A.V.:
- Contact an active member for sponsorship, any time of the year.
- Attend a new member coffee and/or informational meeting.
AS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF A.L.A.V. YOU WOULD:
- Pay $45.00 membership dues yearly.
- Attend monthly Chapter meetings, the 3rd Thurs. evening August through June.
- Serve 40 hrs of volunteer time by:
- a. Assisting with one or more philanthropic projects. Hours vary per project.
- c. Assist with one or more fundraising projects.
ASSOCIATE MEMBER
AN ACTIVE MEMBER CAN BECOME ASSOCIATE BY:
- Paying $100.00 dues annually
- May not vote or hold any office.
- Participates in activities of Chapter as able.
CHAPTER HISTORY
The local Chapter ofNational Assistance League was formed in 1990. A.L.A.V. started
with 40 charter members and has grown to over 86 women from PIeasanton, Livermore,
Dublin and San Ramon.

effective volunteerism through education,
service, leadership development and
financial responsibility.
